Worldwide, million tones per year of scrap tyre are produced. The huge quantity of waste tires presently produced in the world will certainly increase in the future as the associated automotive industries grow. The disposal of scrap tires becomes a serious environmental problem. The accumulation of discarded waste tires leads to environmental pollution. A large fraction of the scrap tires is simply dumped in sites where they represent hazards such as diseases and accidental fires. Rubbers are not biologically degradable, and this fact creates problems with their disposal. The impact of waste rubber on the environment can be minimized by recycling with material or energy recovery. However, during processing and moulding rubber materials are crosslinked, and therefore they cannot be simply again softened and remoulded by heating. For many years landfill, was the main, practical means for dealing with the problem of waste tires. However, landfilling of tires is declining as a disposal option, since tires do not degrade easily in landfills, they are bulky, taking up valuable landfill space and preventing waste compaction. Open dumping may result in accidental fires with high pollution emissions.


This predicament has given Italmatic the opportunity to offer solutions. Italmatic, a leading supplier of tyre machineries, in collaboration with Morelastic Green Resources, a singapore tyre recycling plant, developed a simple solution for tyre waste. We offer two stage approach to solve the waste tyre problem:


  1. STAGE A Prolonging: Recovery and Reuse: means to collect back tyres from the market and to sort out the tyres to be resold as casings for reuse as a second hand tyre and also to be retreaded and give a second life. However it only prolongs the life span. It does not solve the waste. The process is called Tyre Retreading. To know more, see ITALTEC.
  2. STAGE B & C Recover and Re-energize:  means to recover valuable products e.g. Carbon Black, Fuel Oil, Steel Wire,  Tyre Crumbs etc. from scraped tyres. The process is called Tyre Pyrolysis. Once the tyre oil has been processed (TDO), its output can be further refined (RTDD) to liquid diesel and synthetic gas to be sold or used to supply electrical power to electrical grid for power generation.   • Process 1– is the production of tyre oil and carbon black, steel wire and synthetic gas.



Propriety Technology of Process 1 is subdivided into 2 batch processes namely Cartridge Transfer System (CTS) and Retread Tyre Derived Diesel (RTDD or Diesel Technology) – Patent is currently being sort.


A. CTS refining process

In CTS, Cartridges are use where completely baled tyres are place inside tighly. They are loaded into the reactor using over crane. A reactor can hold up to 6 cartridges at any one time. And has a capacity of 12 tons of tyres per 12 hours.

The system is fired up by the same TDO fuel and Syn gas generated from the tyres. Advantages of these systems are:

1. The reactor is constantly operating. Tyres and rubber that are completely pyrolysis are removed intact inside a cartridge and a new one loaded.

2. The cartridge is then brought into a clean room; where the steel wires and carbon is remove in a secure and clean confine space that prevents any escape of dusk or smell.

3. Due to the use of oil and gas to start a gas burner for the initial heating, the emissions will be similar to that of a boiler. Hence meeting the most stringent emissions requirements.

4. Cartridges that are removed will be clean extensively so as to provide the best heating surface for the tyres. Because of such capability, CTS system can recover almost 45% by weight of oil from tyres.

5. This system is modular making it very suitable to be move and expanded.

B. RTDD refining process

From process 1, RTDD is a further refining process that can refine the oil into diesel that can be used for industrial and marine application.

TDO is black and difficult to use, it is normally sold to refineries for refining..

RTO can be use with MGO to produce RTDD. An accepted form of MGO.


At the moment, refining machines under development with MGR Target best at early 2017.Patent is currently being sort.

From process 1, RTDD is a further refining process that can refine the oil into diesel that can be used for industrial and marine application.


  • Process 2–  is the  the extraction of rubber and steel from the tyres to produce rubber crumbs.
